Pune: Dalmia Cement on Thursday dismissed allegations of cartelization of the Indian cement market, an issue currently under investigation by the Competition Commission of India (CCI).
“There is no cartel. If there was indeed one, prices of cement would have more than doubled. However, if you look at the cost escalations that the construction industry has gone through over the past couple of years, most of the major price inflations have been in the case of sand, steel, electricity, as well as the cost of labour. Cement is the only input whose price has not risen by much,” Sanjay Wali, senior executive director and head of sales and marketing at Dalmia Cement, said, while speaking about the company’s investments in Maharashtra. He said the current inflationary pressure on the cement industry is expected to last “at least another quarter”.
