FUMEC Celebrates 30 Years With Initiatives Promoting Mexico-EU Competitiveness Through Science And Technology

The United States-Mexico Foundation for Science (FUMEC) celebrates 30 years as a unique organization, dedicated to promoting science, technology and innovation that are the engines of growth and development in areas where this binational collaboration operated with the support of.

In 1992, Congressman George Brown promoted the creation of FUMEC in Mexico and the United States to create an organization for the betterment of both countries through science, technology, and innovation.

Over 30 years, FUMEC has collaborated with more than 200 organizations involved in innovation and technological development, including universities, institutions and economic development agencies in North America and Latin America.

FUMEC has developed over 5,000 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and over 2,000 entrepreneurs and small producers in disadvantaged areas; Supported approximately 5,000 women entrepreneurs in rural areas of Mexico and successfully implemented the United States Department of State’s Academy of Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) program in Mexico.

Within the framework of its 30th anniversary, FUMEC announced the FUMEC Demo Week virtual event, which will take place from 10 to 14 October with the aim of sharing the organization’s work experience over three decades with its partners, as well as presenting the next initiatives Will be from. Those who seek the well-being and resilience of the region through science, technology and innovation.

“We will continue to create opportunities by leveraging mechanisms such as the TMEC and the High-Level Economic Dialogue between Mexico and the United States, the impact and expansion of which pertains to the entire North American region.

“With a binational look at the future of science and technology, FUMEC works on a variety of binational strategies that support key people and institutions to improve the quality of life and competitiveness of regions, disadvantaged communities with high growth potential and focus on minorities, seek welfare and resilience through science, technology and innovation”, said Eugenio Marin Aguilar, Executive Director of FUMEC.

For her part, Jessica Lilly, Executive Director of FUMEC (USMFS) in the United States, highlighted that the Foundation strives to make Mexico and the United States the most inclusive, competitive and sustainable regions in the world.

While this is an ambitious goal, Lilly said, FUMEC’s ​​work in both countries promotes well-being. Such is the case, he pointed to the Manufacturing Reshoring Initiative, which seeks the development of national suppliers in the region of South Texas and northern Mexico with the intention of creating job creation, commercial expansion and increasing productivity.

In addition, he highlighted that FUMEC promotes successful initiatives for innovation in solar energy and that it supports new companies focused on the commercialization of hardware for solar energy applications, adding to the existing resources for entrepreneurs in this sector.
