Nicholas Liolis was named chief investment officer of Guardian Life Insurance Co., a news release said Tuesday.

He will join the insurer Jan. 23 and report to Andrew J. McMahon, president and CEO, spokeswoman Sarah Yeager said in an email.

Mr. Liolis will replace Jean LaTorre, who left in December to pursue other opportunities after serving as CIO since February 2020, Ms. Yeager said.

Mr. Liolis was previously executive vice president and CIO of the $297 billion TIAA General Account.

In a separate news release Tuesday, TIAA-CREF announced Emilia Wiener, head of fixed income, will be promoted to CIO of TIAA General Account effective Jan. 15.

Wen-Fu Wu will succeed Ms. Wiener as head of fixed income and will also take on the title of deputy CIO of TIAA General Account, according to TIAA-CREF’s news release. Mr. Wu is currently head of asset allocation. TIAA-CREF spokesman Chad Peterson could not be immediately reached for further information.
