HDFC Bank customers face internet banking, mobile app glitch; bank replies

Users across India on Tuesday complained about HDFC Bank servers being down, saying that they were not being able to use the bank’s netbanking and mobile app services. Some of the users said that the they were not being able to carry out transactions for over two hours, while others said that they were being logged out of the app repeatedly. This comes on a day when most people are supposed to receive their salaries.

Users shared screenshots of the issue on Twitter, tagging social media handles of the lender. “@HDFC_Bank @HDFCBank_Cares Your netbanking services appear to be down. When can we expect a resumption of services?” tweeted one user.

“Why the HDFC is struggling like this in the app and netbanking (web) security system? Aren’t there any skilled programmers? I can’t login in app and netbanking also! Fix it!!,” said another.

“Is @HDFC_Bank website down today? Im unable to login to netbanking even after entering details it gives a time out message. Been trying since last one hour. Please help,” a user tweeted further.

HDFC Bank did not confirm or deny about their servers being down, but did apologise for the issue and problem caused due to it. From its Twitter handle, the bank asked affected users to reach them on their helpline number. “We apologize on behalf of, HDFC Bank sorry About Your Concern Please Reach Us Our 24/7 Helpline No 63718-51146 Any Issue for the inconvenience caused to you. to assist you better thanks,” it replied to tweets.

In December 2020, the RBI had barred HDFC Bank from issuing new credit cars and launching new digital initiatives after repeated instances of tech outages at the lender. The RBI action came after the bank’s customers faced a number of incidents of outages in internet banking and mobile banking. Following remedial action, the RBI had partially lifted the ban on card issuances after a new months later. Then in March 2022, the bank informed that the Reserve Bank of India had lifted the restriction on the business generating activities planned under the Bank’s Digital 2.0 programme.
