MYSURU: Just three days of heavy rainfall has exposed the city’s poor infrastructure. Water logging was reported from several areas in the city and its outskirts. Potholes have resurfaced on several roads following the incessant rain.

According to the KSNDMC data, between 8.30am on Wednesday and 8.30am on Thursday, Mysuru city recorded 41.8mm rainfall against the normal rainfall of 1.6mm. Between November 3 and 9, the city recorded 147.7mm rainfall against the normal rainfall of 25.5mm.

This year, the city had recorded deficit rainfall in all months except in the first week of November.

The residents demanded the civic authorities to tour the city to find out how the roads are damaged in the rain.

Shashidhar Pai, a resident of Ramanuja Road, said waterlogging due to blocked drainages was a common problem in the area during rain. Only the main road in the area is in a moderate condition while other roads are filled with potholes. If we register a complaint on the MCC helpline, they give assurances but no action follows, he said.

The residents in the city’s outskirts complained that their complaints are not followed-up by any agencies. “Waterlogging and potholes are the main issues. Even on the Outer Ring Road service roads, there are problems. But no one is bothered to address them,” said Rajesh Nayak, a businessman from Hinkal.

Meanwhile, the civic agencies are looking for funds from the state government to take up works. Mayor Shivakumar said he is aware of the problems faced by the public. “Mysuru City Corporation is taking up all the relief and repair works using its own funds,” he said. “The state government owes over Rs 30- Rs 35 crore to the MCC under various heads, including special grants. Even during Dasara, we repaired roads at an estimated cost of Rs 10 crore,” he added.
