DHANBAD: A large number of railway employees voted in favour of going on a strike for scraping the new pension scheme and implementation of the old one.

Giving this information, spokesperson of the East Central Railways (ECR) Karamchari Union N K Khawas said the plebiscite is being conducted in all the railway zones to seek the views of employees going for a strike to force the government for implementation of the old pension scheme.

Khawas said that the voting through secret ballot was conducted in all the five divisions of the ECR and 14 branches of the Dhanbad division on 21st and 22nd November on a call given by the All India Railwaymen’s Federation (AIRF) and would be sent to the zonal office after counting.

He added that the ballot would be sent to the AIRF to take a decision on the strike in consultation with the members of the joint front which would be a binding on all the employees.

Replying to a query, Khawas said that though it is a secret ballot, we are pretty sure that more than 90 percent of the employees have voted in favour of the strike.
