India Post Payments Bank: Airtel to provide WhatsApp services to India Post Payments Bank users

Bharti Airtel will provide WhatsApp communication services for India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) customers, allowing them access to banking services on their mobile phone, the two entities said Friday in a statement.

The WhatsApp messaging solution will be delivered to customers through Airtel IQ – a cloud based communications platform as a service (CPaaS) business that provides customer engagement across voice, SMS and WhatsApp channels.

Abhishek Biswal, business head, Airtel Digital said, “With the addition of WhatsApp messaging to the existing SMS and voice communication that we offer to India Post Payments Bank customers, we will further enable a two-way communication between the bank and their customers.”

Through its association with IPPB, Airtel will enable the bank’s customers to connect with the bank on WhatsApp and access banking services like – doorstep service request, and locating nearest Post Office.

In the future, the platform will have multi-language support to engage customers in the rural parts of the country to access banking services in their preferred language, Airtel said.

Gursharan Rai Bansal, chief general manager, India Post Payments Bank said, “We believe that financial services driven by technology have great potential and can go a long way in ensuring that the best financial products reach the farthest corners of the country.”

IPPB and Airtel IQ are working towards further integrating a live interactive customer support agent into the WhatsApp solution, Airtel added.
