There will be an 11% jump in manufacturing of coaches by the Indian Railways in the financial year 2024-25 as the three coach factories ramp up production.
As per the official coach production programme of the Indian Railways, the manufacturing target has been set at 7784 for next financial year (2024-25).
The Indian Railways has three coach manufacturing units in the country – Integral Coach Factory (ICF) at Chennai (Tamil Nadu), Rail Coach Factory (RCF) at Kapurthala (Punjab) and Modern Coach Factory (MCF) at Rae Bareli (Uttar Pradesh).
The Ministry of Railways is expected to manufacture 7000 coaches by the end of the current financial year (2023-24), as per the revised coach production programme.
The target for next fiscal includes manufacturing of rapid metro, regional metro and Vande Metro, a mini version of the Vande Bharat Express trains.
Production of non air-conditioned coaches for regional metro, from the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), will more than double in 2024-25.
ICF is expected to manufacture 160 non air-conditioned coaches for regional metro in the current fiscal and the target for the next fiscal has been set at 400.
Similarly, the Rail Coach Factory (RCF) will build 308 non air-conditioned coaches for regional metro in 2023-24 and the number will increase to 400 in 2024-25.
Modern Coach Factory or MCF that is currently manufacturing only 32 non air-conditioned coaches for regional metro will see a massive increase in production in the next fiscal, target for which is set at 144.
The Integral Coach Factory built over 200 rapid metro coaches in 2023-24, however neither the Rail Coach Factory nor the Modern Coach Factory manufactured any rapid metro coaches.
