Iran exported 340 000 of their annual 1.4 million production of dates last season, but with competition growing from neighbouring countries, the are looking to cement their position in the top three globally.
Their major rivals in date production are Egypt and Saudi Arabia who are all planting new palm trees to expand production of this growing delicacy. Iran exported 388 405 tons of dates worth $296 million to 85 countries in 2021-21. India is their leading market at 16%, their leading market followed by Malaysia 11%, Russia 9.9%.
