J M Baxi’s Dhruv Kotak & Hapag-Lloyd’s Sorensen escapes from plane crash, ET Infra


MUMBAI: Dhruv Kotak, Managing Director, J M Baxi Group and Lars Sorensen, Managing Director, Hapag-Lloyd India Pvt Ltd, the Indian unit of German container line Hapag-Lloyd AG, were among the five passengers who escaped with minor injuries when the business jet in which they were travelling crashed while landing in heavy rain at Mumbai airport on Thursday evening.

The other passengers on the Learjet 45 – a nine-seater super-light business jet – included K K Krishnadas, President and Chief Operating Officer at J M Baxi Ports & Logistics, Arul Sali, Executive Assistant to Dhruv Kotak, and Aakarsh Shethi.

The business executives were returning from Visakhapatnam after taking a tour of the Vizag Container Terminal Pvt Ltd, the container terminal at state-owned Visakhapatnam Port, run by J M Baxi Ports & Logistics Ltd, sources said.

In January this year, Hapag-Lloyd AG acquire a 40 percent stake in J M Baxi Ports & Logistics.

In a video image, the plane was seen striking the ground with considerable force, skidded off the runway and the impact caused the aircraft fuselage to break into two.

The aircraft’s two pilots and the sole crew member sustained multiple injuries in the mishap.
