JBVNL works overtime to restore power supply in city

Ranchi: Power officials worked through Saturday night to restore normalcy even as outages continued in many residential areas for the second day on Sunday. Residents and industries of Ranchi and its surrounding areas were forced to bear 18 to 20 hours of power cuts on Saturday.

Early Sunday morning, irate consumers gheraoed the Ranchi airport feeder sub-station.

Officials said since Saturday evening, they have been flooded with calls from Firing Range area at Bariatu, Cheshire Home Road, North and South Office Para, HEC Sector 2, Sarna Toli, Tungri Toli, Deendayal Nagar, Morabadi, Kokar, Parastoli, Darjee Mohalla, Kadru, Bahu Bazar, Chutia, Purulia Road, Harmu.

A branch of a tree that fell on the power lines at Kathal More causing widespread blackouts, was removed on Sunday.

“Though strong winds and heavy rains continued unabated, we ensured normal power supplies to most areas by late Saturday evening. There were fuse calls, complaints regarding low and high voltage, transformer snags, among others. We are trying our best to restore normalcy. Fortunately the weather has improved today,” PK Srivastava, the general manager of Jharkhand Bijli Vitaran Nigam Limited (JBVNL), told TOI.
