The proposed cement plant of Jindal Panther Cement Pvt Limited, an arm of diversified conglomerate Jindal Steel and Power (JSP), coming up in Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh district received mammoth support from the people at the public hearing held on Thursday.

The company has proposed integrated cement plant with capacity of clinker 2.5 million tonne per annum (MTPA), cement – 2.5 MTPA, waste heat recovering (WHRS) 12 MW and DG set (500 KVA) at villages Kosampali, Barmuda, Dhanagar Saraipali in Raigarh. The Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board (CECB) had organised the public hearing to get people’s consent for granting environment clearance for the project.

Following all the COVID protocols, the proceedings started at 11 am in Kosampali village. Thousands of people thronged the venue and expressed their views on the upcoming project. They said the project would accelerate the overall development of the region and prove to be a milestone in the industrial development of not only Raigarh but also Chhattisgarh.

The villagers said the company had executed a series of developmental works under the social responsibility head in the region. It included from the basic needs of the villagers to the work of infrastructure development. It has facilitated a large number of villagers to get direct and indirect employment even as the entire region has benefited from it. The company has also made better efforts for the protection and promotion of the environment, a few villagers added.

They expressed confidence that with the commissioning of the cement plant, the region is likely to see a new pace of development. The company claimed that during the public hearing, the representatives of all the affected villages expressed their views and unanimously supported the project. The process of public hearing continued till evening and was completed successfully, and peacefully with no untoward incident.

Earlier, on behalf of Jindal Panther Cement Pvt Ltd, the consultant gave detailed information about the project and briefed how its completion would accelerate industrial growth and development of the region. He gave complete information to the villagers about the benefits of the project.
