“India is going to be a full stack player. We can design, do manufacturing and also be a supply chain player. We can design, develop, test and market products in our home domain and then do an India plus,” Foulger said.

Foulger, who will assume charge formally on Friday, has joined the Bengaluru-based manufacturing unicorn from Bharat FIH, the India arm of Taiwanese contract manufacturing firm Foxconn.

He was till recently the country head at Bharat FIH and was instrumental in setting up and expanding Nokia and Foxconn’s India capabilities.

Since Zetwerk is only one of the two companies which are present in multiple categories in the electronics manufacturing segment, it will now look to go deeper in categories such as wearables and hearables, information technology hardware and phones, said Rahul Sharma, co-founder, Zetwerk.

“As we start riding more capabilities in sectors across engineering, design, supply chain manufacturing, we will look at how to become a global player and leverage our global presence to drive more business into India,” said Sharma, who looks after the electronics manufacturing division.Foulger said India is going to be “one of the best pivots” for the global consumer electronics supply chain as it has so far pushed the policy in the right direction. It will benefit from a diversification of domestic supply chains so that all states can benefit, along with a change in hiring and job dynamics, he said.

“The most important thing which the government will be pushing for will be how we are employing and who we are employing. At the end of the day, all of this is about employment. Of course, we need to enable Indian enterprises in that direction, but the bottom line is going to be about employment,” Foulger said.

He said though there are several electronics manufacturers in India, there are very few which ensure quality products while also maintaining delivery schedules and timelines.

At Zetwerk, Foulger said, his priority would be to continue maintaining the high-quality standard that the startup has prided itself on so far, while also ensuring that product prices are competitive.

“The experience should be the same for something which is a 1,000-rupee product or a one lakh rupee product. Then there are external aspects such as whether we are creating employment-friendly opportunities in the country. Are we creating a technology-friendly environment? We want to ensure that we are with the right customers,” Foulger said.
