Making the announcement, the social media service said in a statement on Thursday: “In order to provide users with a wholesome community and meaningful engagement Koo has identified few areas which have a high impact on user safety, that is child sexual abuse materials and nudity, toxic comments and hate speech, misinformation and disinformation, and impersonation, and is working to actively remove their occurrence on the platform.”

What are the new features announced by Koo?

(1.) No Nudity Algorithm: According to Koo, this option will proactively and instantaneously detect and block any attempt to upload an image or a video containing child sexual abuse materials, nudity or sexual content. The total time taken to both detect and block will be less than 5 seconds.

(2.) MisRep Algorithm: This feature scans the platform for accounts impersonating well-known personalities, and blocks such handles. The pictures and videos of the personalities are immediately removed from the impersonating profile, which gets flagged for bad behaviour monitoring in the future.

(3.) Misinfo and Disinfo Algorithm: Working actively and in real-time, this option scans all viral and reported fake news basis public and private sources of fake news, to detect and label misinformation and disinformation on a post.

(4.) Sexually explicit content: Those posting sexually explicit content will be immediately blocked from posting such content. These accounts will become ‘invisible’ to others, will not feature in trending posts, and will not be able to engage with others.

(5.) Toxic comments and hate speech: These will be actively detected, and then hidden or removed, in less than 10 seconds. Visuals/images containing excessive blood and gore will come with a warning for users.
