Man killed in shooting outside McDonald’s parking lot on Bardstown Road

Louisville Metro police are investigating a deadly shooting that happened at a McDonald’s on Bardstown Road.The shooting happened around 3 p.m. Monday at McDonald’s in the 3300 block of Bardstown Road near the Bashford Manor neighborhood.Deszaraeh Arias wanted to treat her 5-year-old daughter to a Happy Meal.”She wanted McDonald’s so that’s where we came,” she said.But what was supposed to be a quick stop at the Bardstown road McDonald’s turned into a crime scene as they were sitting in the drive-thru. “We were waiting to get our food; we heard a popping noise,” Arias said.While few details were released, a spokesperson for the Louisville Metro Police Department confirmed that the shooting occurred outside the business in the parking lot.A scary sight for arias as she was trying to keep her daughter calm yet at the same time figure out what happened.”I told her that somebody was shot, and I told her that was what the ambulance was for. She really started freaking out once all the police and everything showed up,” Arias said.Sixth Division officers found a man with a gunshot wound who was later taken to the hospital where he died.Officials said the shooting does not appear to be random. They said detectives are canvassing the area looking for information. There have been more than 60 criminal homicides in the Louisville metro area this year. At the current rate, the city is on pace to beat out last year’s record year of 173 criminal homicides.”We have far too many shootings and far too many homicides in the city of Louisville which I’ve lived in for my entire life and never seen it to these proportions,” said Mitchell.For Arias, she says she’s thrilled her and her family were able to make it out safely.”It’s really scary especially being that close to it because we had considered going in,” she said.
