Speaking with fans at a local pub in Cheshire, Manchester United CEO Richard Arnold has revealed that the club are doing everything in their power to sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong this summer.

Few fans had planned a protest against United’s owners, The Glazers, outside Arnold’s house. The Red Devils’ supremo met those supporters before the protests and discussed the club’s issues at length and a video recording of the chat has now emerged online.

And, in the video, Arnold is seen discussing the Premier League giants’ interest in Frenkie de Jong and the efforts that are being made to sign the Dutchman from Barcelona.

Manchester United have been hot on the trail of de Jong since Erik ten Hag was named the manager of the team last month. The Netherlands international had thrived under ten Hag at Ajax and the tactician is intent on reuniting with the midfielder at Old Trafford.

Negotiations between the two clubs have been going on but an agreement is yet to be struck. And, Arnold has now provided an update on the situation, stating that Manchester United are trying hard to get the deal over the line and money is not an issue.

In a video posted by Twitter user @MufcWonItAll (h/t Manchester Evening News) Arnold said: “Money is not a consideration on who we want. The manager wants him (De Jong) and they have actually done the work. He’s a great player.”

Further adding on the matter, he said: “As a club we’re doing everything possible to get the deal done, I’ve been up for days trying to get it done, the money is there but there’s things standing in our way which I can’t say.”

Manchester United had concerns that Barcelona were increasing the price for de Jong to get themselves out of their financial problems. However, recent reports indicate that the Red Devils believe the Blaugrana will drop their demands for the midfielder, paving the way for a move.
