NEW DELHI: Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has proposed abolishing 660 posts in its schedule, presented with budget estimates for 2024-25 in the house meeting on Saturday.

If the 660 posts are abolished, then MCD would have done away with 6,226 posts since its unification.

Among the posts that have been abolished, the majority are clerical. About 12 assistant auditors, six senior auditors and 123 posts in central and zonal offices have been abolished from the Municipal Chief Auditor Department. There is a proposal to abolish 102 posts in the property tax department. Similarly, there is a proposal to abolish 52 posts in the education department and nine in hospital administration.

Leader of opposition and BJP councillor Raja Iqbal Singh said, “The proposal shows the dual standards of AAP in MCD. On the one hand, the party is assuring regularisation of contractual employees during municipal elections, on the other, it is keen on eliminating jobs.”

“Such double standards and decisions against employees reflect poorly on the party. While 3,100 positions have already been abolished in one year of AAP governance in the corporation, emphasis is being given to privatising all services,” Singh said.
