Smart City projects worth over Rs 1,500 crore completed in Bhubaneswar: Minister

BHUBANESWAR: The city has undergone massive transformation in terms of infrastructure development in the recent years with execution of an array of Smart City projects, including Smart Janpath, smart traffic signalling system and more costing over Rs 1,500 crore.

In a written reply to a question raised in Rajya Sabha, minister of state for housing and urban affairs, Kaushal Kisore, provided the information stating that while smart city projects worth over Rs 1,500 crore got completed, more projects costing Rs 607 crore are being implemented.

According to data, the completed smart city projects include socially smart Bhubaneswar, public bicycle sharing system, integrated public service centre, common payment card, smart parks, sensory parks and multi-level car parking among others.

The projects in the meantime include e-rickshaw, Satya Nagar, Chandrasekharpur and Gadakana housing projects, drink from tap, digital door numbering, lake zone II and III and city surveillance system II among others.

The MoS gave the information to the question raised by Rajya Sabha MP Sasmit Patra who asked about the steps undertaken by the government since 2017 for the development of the city of Bhubaneswar and the roadmap ahead.

Kaushal stated in his written reply that in Bhubaneswar, various water supply, sewerage and park projects worth Rs 339 crore has been executed under AMRUT while similar projects worth Rs 173 crore are under execution under AMRUT II in the city.

He added that under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), the Centre has sanctioned 25,181 houses for the city dwellers out of which 5,560 houses have completed.
