Modi flags off Kashi Tamil Sangamam Express, Infra News, ET Infra


MADURAI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday flagged off the Kanyakumari-Benares Kashi Tamil Sangamam Express after inaugurating Kashi Tamil Sangamam at Varanasi. A function was organised at Kanyakumari for the inaugural in the presence of local MLA Thalavai Sundaram.

Railways called it an exclusive regular train connecting the southern-most tip of the peninsula, Kanyakumari, to the sacred city of Kashi. The ceremonial function was held at all the 17 stations of Tamil Nadu through which the train plies.

The train will chug through Nagercoil, Tirunelveli, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Dindigul, Trichy, Thanjavur, Kumbakonam, Mayiladuthurai, Sirkazhi, Chidambaram, Cuddalore Port, Villupuram, Chengalpattu, Arakkonam and Perambur in Tamil Nadu before entering other states. The train will cater to a large number of pilgrims from Tamil Nadu visiting Kashi and is routed through a historic pilgrimage route connecting holy sites and important cities.
