  • As confirmed by MSETCL, in its statement on today’s situation, the outage happened due to a breakdown (bus trip) in their 400 KV substation of Mahatrans at Padgha.
  • Tata Power ensured the running of its hydro, gas, and thermal plants to the full capacity to safeguard the city against further load shedding.
  • Electricity has now been fully restored in Mumbai and the surrounding MMR region after a near one hour outage, the MSEDCL said.

Mumbai: The financial capital of India suffered power outage across several parts of the city and it’s adjoining areas including Thane, Mulund, Dombivali and Badlapur. Electricity supply was affected on Tuesday morning due to tripping in the 400KV sub-station at Padgha. Amid scorching heat Mumbaikars face severe disruption in electricity distribution.

As confirmed by MSETCL, in its statement on today’s situation, the outage happened due to a breakdown (bus trip) in their 400 KV substation of Mahatrans at Padgha. This substation supplies power on Padgha to Pal 220 KV high-pressure line and it got disrupted. This had a resultant impact on the Tata Power network. Tata Power’s Quick response and immediate sprucing up of Thermal and Hydros generation Saved Mumbai from Major Outage. Interestingly Tata Power today also ensured the running of its hydro, gas, and thermal plants to the full capacity to safeguard the city against further load shedding.

“At 10:08 AM, around 150MW load connected to our Dharavi receiving station, on Special Protection Scheme, got tripped due to tripping of 400KV MSETCL Kalwa- Padhge lines to ensure that loading on balance 400KV lines remain within the limit and doesn’t cause major/ further outage in Mumbai,” read a statement issued by Tata Power.

The statement further read, “Mumbai’s power network is wired up to keep the city’s system safe from widespread outages in case of any major tripping. In such a scenario, automated power supply trimming gets activated, like what has happened today, resulting in load trimming to effectively manage the load. In fact, the unique power network of Mumbai helps in avoiding the outages similar to as observed two years back i.e. on October 12, 2020.”
