netflix password sharing: Soon, you wont be able to share Netflix account with friends or relatives

Soon, you might not be able to share your friend or relative’s Netflix account as the online streaming service provider is reportedly planning to crackdown on password sharing. As per reports, the crackdown may happen as early as March 2023. The online streaming major is also planning to introduce an ad-supporting service on its platform.

“Later in Q1, we expect to start rolling out paid sharing more broadly. The account sharing seriously impact the company’s long-term plans and undermine its ability to invest,” the company said. After a disappointing 2022 when Netflix witnessed a dip in subscribers, Netflix had announced measures like crackdowns on password sharing and introduction of advertising plans.

What does this mean for existing Netflix users?

Netflix will end password sharing outside a household. So a Netflix account holder, irrespective of how many screens you have chosen, will only be able to use the service in one household.

However, Netflix will allow users to access accounts in different households with a new paid sharing plan. Netflix hasn’t provided much details about pricing outside Latin America, but users can expect password sharing to cost less than the price of a new account.

How much it will cost for new password sharing Netflix service
Netflix has already launched paid password sharing model in Argentina, Dominican Republic, Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala, where where it cost $2 or $3 to add a member account for someone outside one’s household.

How will Netflix crackdown on password sharing?

As per reports, Netflix will detect password sharing through IP addresses, device IDs, and account activity to check which devices are using an account in the same household.How will the crackdown affect Netflix usage during travel?
A big question is how will Netflix limit for users accessing the streaming service on the go through a laptop, tablet, or mobile phone. Netflix has confirmed that members will be able to continue watching content on their account while traveling. Additionally, streaming on mobile devices, tablets, or laptops wasn’t affected during the trails in Latin America, according to Bloomberg.
