Nial Plans To Enter Aircraft Maintenance, Repair Industry, Infra News, ET Infra

NOIDA: Noida International Airport Ltd (NIAL) is planning to foray into the aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) industry with a possible joint venture with the Yamuna International Airport Pvt Ltd and an airline, officials said on Thursday.

It was discussed at a meeting called by the civil aviation department of the UP government in Lucknow on Thursday. NIAL — a joint venture of the UP government and development agencies — is currently responsible for operating and managing the upcoming Noida International Airport. According to the proposal, the airport developer Yamuna International Airport Pvt Ltd and NIAL will develop the MRO centre by forming a joint venture.

Officials said the developer has held a round of talks with an airline and if granted approval by the civil aviation department, NIAL will have a new role to play.

They added that it will also ensure better coordination and smooth development of the airport region.

NIAL CEO Arun Vir Singh said on Thursday that consultancy firm PricewaterhouseCoopers has been entrusted with the responsibility to prepare a report on the proposal.

The firmwill study similar joint ventures across the world. It will then give its report regarding shareholding of the companies, their functions and rights among other aspects in the joint venture, officials said.
