PM Narendra Modi to lay foundation stone for upgrade of 20 suburban stations, ET Infra

Twelve suburban stations on Central Railway and eight on Western Railway are about to be upgraded, with much of the work concerning amenities. The foundation stone for the work, estimated to cost Rs 552 crore cumulatively, will be laid virtually by Prime minister Narendra Modi on Feb 26.

The scheme

1,309 stations have been identified for development under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme launched by the railway ministry.

The Feb 26 foundation stone laying ceremony will concern 551 stations and 1,500 rail over- and under-bridges across India.

Selected stations

In city and rest of Mumbai Metropolitan Region:

Central Railway

Byculla, Sandhurst Road, Chinchpokli, Matunga, Kurla, Vidyavihar, Wadala, Diva, Mumbra, Igatpuri, Shahad, Titwala.

Western Railway

Marine Lines, Charni Road, Grant Road, Lower Parel, Prabhadevi, Jogeshwari, Malad, Palghar.

Facilities to be upgrade

  • 12-metre-wide FOBs to be built to serve as food plazas.

  • New station buildings reflecting modern designs.

  • Modular sewage treatment plants.

  • Resurfaced platforms with landscaping on platform walls.

  • Better seating, drinking water facilities, & enhanced lighting and ventilation.

  • Additional lifts and escalators.

  • Modernized train indication boards and passenger-friendly signages.

  • Renovated booking offices and other administrative buildings.

  • All improvements to be made disabled-friendly, ensuring equal access and convenience.
