PRAYAGRAJ: To imbibe state of the art technology in their working, Prayagraj Municipal Corporation will use drones to monitor roads, streets, drains, etc being constructed in preparation of Maha Kumbh in 2025.

PMC will also use drones to inspect the condition and cleanliness of the roads before and after construction. To improve quality of development work and for regular maintenance, the municipal corporation will give responsibility of aerial surveillance through drones to a private player and has floated tender for selection of an agency.

Municipal commissioner Chandra Mohan Garg said that in view of Maha Kumbh, construction and improvement has been planned on hundreds of roads, streets and drains in the city. “Not only construction and repair part of major roads and by-lanes, monitoring of their maintenance is important too and since officers and engineers are not able to reach everywhere, given the limited workforce, using drones to monitor the work and its maintenance would help,” said Garg, adding that this would also eliminate possibility of irregularities.

Many a times, due to lack of monitoring, condition of roads suffers and the corporation’s funds go waster, said the official, adding that the drone technique is used for monitoring construction of highways and it was the first time in the state that surveillance by drone was being done in the city.
