National broadcaster Prasar Bharati has asked its employees, particularly contractual employees working in news, to ‘cease and desist’ from running blogs or putting out posts on social media on the same subjects as their role and responsibilities in the broadcaster requires.
In a communication issued on Wednesday, the broadcaster said, “…the competent authority has observed that contractual engagees working in roles related to news broadcasting are sharing information or news which is available with him/her in the official capacity of working in Prasar Bharati, to their personal accounts in social media handles like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram before or at the same time such information is broadcast officially through Radio/IV/Social Media of Prasar Bharati or after the broadcast without approval of the competent authority.”
“Sharing such news items by contractual engagees in their personal capacities is against the interest of Prasar Bharati,” it said.
