Prayagraj to get three more cement production units

PRAYAGRAJ: The district is all set to become the major hub of cement manufacturing in the state with three more cement units coming up in the Shankargarh regio of the trans-Yamuna area.

Prayagraj already has two cement manufacturing plants, both located at the trans-Yamuna area. The land has been identified for the three new cement production units in the Shankragarh area. These three units are being set up by three different private firms.

At present the district has two cement plants running—a Cement blending plant of 6.6 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of Jaypee Group at Sadwa and another of Ulta Tech Cement having a 2MTPA plant at Bara.

Now, with the help of the state government’s thrust to incite investments in UP, JK Cement Ltd, along with KJS Cement and Eco Cement Ltd have started the process of setting up plants in the trans-Yamuna region of Prayagraj.

As per the official of the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPCIDA), Prayagraj, an MoU with the company has already been signed. The firm will be setting up a Clinker grinding unit of a capacity of 2.50 MTPA at a cost of Rs 400 crore in Bara area. The firm is already in the process of purchasing the land.

The official further said that all support is being extended to help he firms invest in the region as per the government’s policies.

Similarly, KJS Cement and Eco Cement Ltd to have started has commenced the process of setting up a 2 MTPA plant in Meja and a 4 MTPA plant at Lakhanpur in Bara over 25.829 hectares of land, respectively.

They have also applied to UP Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) seeking no-objection certificates. “We had sought objections for setting up the plants. There is no opposition from the locals. Now the three firms would need to attain environmental clearances,” said the regional officer, UPPCB Prayagraj, RK Singh,
