Accordingly on Wednesday, she was taken to the operation theatre and was administered anaesthesia. In the meantime, a power cut took place.
The staff tried to turn on the power generator but failed due to which the doctors were left with only the option to shift Vanmathi to the nearest private hospital for an emergency as she developed a seizure during the process. Her health condition deteriorated while she was being shifted to another facility, reported TOI.
“When the patient reached the hospital, we treated her but she succumbed without responding to the treatment. We are investigating this issue,” said E Chandra, the joint director of health services.

Collector GS Sameeran said that the joint director is conducting a detailed probe into the matter. “Preliminary information says that the mother developed multiple seizures, probably as a response to Spinal anaesthesia or pregnancy-induced hypertension. Subsequently, she was shifted to the nearest private hospital with an ICU facility and C-section was done under general anaesthesia. Meanwhile, the PWD electrical wing has checked the generator and given a report that it is functioning properly and today, also it was utilised. A detailed report is awaited in this regard,” he added as quoted by TOI.
