A couple of Puzzle Bobble ports will be making their way to various gaming platforms just in time for Taito’s 70th Anniversary.

Several titles from Taito Corporation’s library will be coming to multiple platforms including games from the Puzzle Bobble series and Metal Black. Taito will be reintroducing the aforementioned games to modern audiences via various ports that will be released on February 2, 2023.

Taito started its foray into video games during the early ’70s with their games rising to prominence within the arcade scene of that era. With titles such as Space Invaders, Arkanoid, and Interceptor, it continued to be a solid fixture in arcades up to the early ’90s. It was 1994 when the world was introduced to a little-known puzzle game entitled Puzzle Bobble—a game whose characters were based on another Taito property, Bubble Bobble.

According to the trailer, Puzzle Bobble 2X & Puzzle Bobble 3 S-Tribute will be coming to various consoles as part of a collection that offers both arcade and console versions of Puzzle Bobble 2 and 3—just in time for Taito’s 70th anniversary. Additionally, the option to rewind, slow, quick save and quick load, and play with unlimited credits will be available when playing via S-Tribute. Both games will also come with respective modes which will add variety to the gameplay such as Challenge Mode and Collection Mode just to name a few. This Puzzle Bobble collection will also come with its English versions which went by a different name, Bust-A-Move, in the west.

All in all, publisher City Connection has done a stellar job of porting these games to the latest gaming platforms as the game will be playable on PS4, Xbox One, Steam, and Nintendo Switch. The games will be faithful to their original releases while introducing so many quality-of-life options. However, an additional option to play with Scan Lines to mimic the CRT monitor displays of old shall gamers really want to relive the nostalgia.

The classic NEOGEO version of Puzzle Bobble 2 is currently available on the Nintendo eShop. However, no other modern consoles hold this classic, so this would be gamers’ best bet to be able to play the game. Add the fact that this release comes in the form of a collection, and buyers will be able to maximize the experience by playing multiple versions of more than just one title. With games such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles The Cowabunga Collection finding new life in the current generation, releases like this help preserve history and allow modern gamers to officially try out their favorite games’ predecessors.

Add the fact that Puzzle Bobble Everybubble will be released on May 23, 2023, so this collection will also serve as a primer to reintroduce the series and prepare gamers for this kind of gaming experience. Maybe this will hold players over until the release of the incoming modern Puzzle Bobble game.

Puzzle Bobble 2X & Puzzle Bobble 3 S-Tribute will be available on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One oh on February 2, 2023.
