Relaid Roads Damaged Again for Laying Pipeline in Trichy, Infra News, ET Infra

TRICHY: Residents around Rockfort and Big Bazaar Street in Trichy have expressed disappointment over the poor condition of the roads that were relaid recently.

The Trichy Corporation redeveloped the roads after completing underground drainage and drinking water pipeline installation projects. However, locals criticized the decision to cut open residential roads again to address issues in the drinking water pipeline. White Betel Street in Big Bazaar Street, falling under Ward 19, was recently provided with a cement concrete road.

However, a section of the road at the Manimandapa Road end was cut open by the corporation a week ago to install a major valve for regulating drinking water distribution. This work has obstructed the free movement of vehicles in the narrow stretch. R Gokul, a resident of White Betel Street, expressed frustration, stating, “Such work could have been completed before relaying the roads. Repeated work damaging the roads is causing inconvenience in accessing our houses during monsoons.”

Residents in Rockfort have raised similar complaints, citing instances of new roads getting damaged for the installation of drinking water pipelines and regulatory valves. Roads near the Chathiram bus stand and EB Road were repeatedly dug for rectification work, as alleged by the residents.

“Due to an emergency, we had to cut open the road to rectify lapses in the drinking water supply network. Restoration work will be carried out at the earliest to make the damaged roads commutable,” said Sadhiq Basha, the Ward 19 councillor.
