Sanjay Kumar Jain takes charge of IRCTC CMD, Infra News, ET Infra

Sanjay Kumar Jain has been appointed as the Chairman and Managing Director of the Railway PSU IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation), according to an announcement made by the company. Prior to this role, Jain served as the Principal Chief Commercial Manager (PCCM) of Northern Railway.

The appointment has been approved by the Government of India (Ministry of Railways) on an immediate absorption basis. Jain will hold the position until his superannuation on December 31, 2026, or until further orders.

On February 13, 2024, Jain relinquished his role as PCCM/Northern Railway and assumed the position of IRCTC Chairman and Managing Director on a regular basis starting from February 14, 2024.

Jain is an Indian Railway Traffic Services (IRTS) Officer of the 1990 batch and a qualified Chartered Accountant (CA). He has held leadership roles in policy making, commercial ventures, and developmental ventures of the Government of India and PSUs.

He comes with over thirty years of vast experience managing significant portfolios in the Ministry of Railways, Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), and the Department of Public Enterprises under the Ministry of Finance, Government of India. Among his notable leadership positions are Principal Chief Commercial Manager at Northern Railway, Group General Manager (North Zone) at IRCTC, Divisional Railway Manager in Mumbai for Central Railway, Joint Secretary in the Department of Public Enterprises, and part-time Chairman & CEO of the National Land Monetization Corporation Limited, among others.

During his tenure as Group General Manager (North Zone) at IRCTC, he played a pivotal role in revolutionizing the luxury train Maharajas’ Express with innovative marketing strategies. Additionally, he spearheaded the introduction of India’s inaugural ‘Executive Lounge,’ modeled after airport lounges, at New Delhi Railway Station. The financial and operational framework devised for “Jan Ahar – New Delhi” under his leadership served as a template for replication across IRCTC. Under his guidance, the tourism sector of IRCTC in the North Zone expanded exponentially by 35 times within a span of five years.During his tenure as Divisional Railway Manager, Mumbai, he successfully led a force of nearly 30000 manpower, handling the largest Suburban Railway Network to provide daily services to approximately 40 lakh commuters. In order to make the Swachhata Mission a success, carried many initiatives for which “The Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT)” was conferred with the “Best Iconic Swachhata Place Award’ by Jal Shakti Ministry.

His contributions have been recognized by the Ministry of Railways and he has been honoured twice by the highest award in Indian Railways – the Minister of Railways award for his meritorious services – in 1999 in his role as Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Danapur) and in 2019 as Divisional Railway Manager/Mumbai CSMT Central Railway.
