Steel City to host 40th NTPC senior national archery championship

The action-packed 40th NTPC Senior Indian Round, Compound and Recurve National (men & women) Archery Championship is set to begin at the Tata Archery Academy, Jamshedpur from October 2 to 10 as part of the celebrations for the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Tata Archery Academy.

Senior National will be conducted in three phases starting with the Indian Round (Bamboo Round) event from 2-3 October, 2021 followed by Compound event from 5-6 October and Recurve (Olympic) event from 8-9 October. Arjun Munda, president of Archery Association of India and Union Tribal Minister, Govt.of India who is also the President of Jharkhand Archery Association will inaugurate the event.

The last NTPC Senior National Archery Championship was staged in Cuttack (Orissa) in March, 2019. Thereafter, no Senior National Championship could be conducted due to the impact of the wave of COVID-19 pandemic in all sporting and social gathering events.

The event will provide a wide-ranging platform for the upcoming and elite Archers of the country practising in State, Centre and private owned Archery centres/academies to showcase their talent after a gap of about two and a half years. Over 950 Archers and Team officials from 40 states and sports control/promotion boards have already registered for the event.

Jharkhand Archery Association and Tata Steel have made concerted effort to ensure the smooth conduct of the championship providing comfortable accommodation, food, transportation, well prepared field and other facilities. This unique partnership has organised many National Archery Championships and even Commonwealth Archery Championship & Asian Junior Archery Championship at the JRD Sports Complex with overwhelming success . The city had last hosted Junior Nationals in 2016 and Senior Nationals in 2014.
