Stock Market Today LIVE: Sensex, Nifty trade flat as gains by bank, realty offset by losses in IT, FMCG stocks

Stock Market Today Live: Indian frontline indices S&P BSE Sensex and Nifty50 were trading flat around 11:20 am. The trading was range bound with balance shifting between bulls and bears. While Sensex was trading at 60,963.10, up by 36 points or 0.06 per cent, the broader market Nifty50 was trading a 18,134.90, up just 2.60 points or 0.01 per cent. Banking gauge Nifty Bank was trading 133 points or 0.31 per cent higher at 42,992.80. In the 50-stock Nifty, 15 stocks advanced, 34 declined while 1 remained unchanged. The top gainers were Power Grid, Titan, Britannia Industries, Divi’s Laboratories and NTPC while top losers were TCS, ONGC, Tata Steel, Infosys and Bajaj Finserv.  

Buying returned on Dalal Street around this time with 10 Nifty sectoral indices trading in the green, against 5 trading in red zone. The weakness was on account IT, FMCG, metal and pharma stocks. Nifty PSU Bank was the top performing index and was followed by Nifty Realty and Nifty Consumer Durables.

In the broader markets, investors booked profits in specific stocks ahead of the monthly expiry on Thursday.

Rupee rises 4 paise to 82.83 against US dollar in early trade, PTI reported.   

Singapore-based SGX Nifty futures, an early indicator of movement in Nifty50 was trading in red at 18,089.5, down 58.5 points or 0.32 per cent while Dow Futures were trading at 33,271.60, up by 30 points or 0.09 per cent. 

Asian benchmark indices were trading mix with Nikkei 225 trading 200 points or 0.78 per cent lower at 26,241.50 while China’s Shanghai Composite was trading at 3,095.57, up 30.01 points or 0.98 per cent.

On Tuesday, US markets ended with losses. S&P 500 fell by 15.57 points or 0.40 per cent to 3,829.25 while Nasdaq Composite was down 144 points or 1.38 per cent at 10,353.20 on losses incurred by Tesla. Meanwhile, Dow 30 finished at 33,241.60, up 37.63 points or 0.11 per cent.
