‘Surat should focus on garment manufacturing’

Textile industry experts are strongly of the opinion that Surat should now focus on garment manufacturing as it is a high-growth area.

Addressing the 8th edition of textile week organised by Global fabric resource and research centre of The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI), it was highlighted that Surat has every resource of the textile industry and to get maximum benefits, it should focus on garment manufacturing.

Dheeraj Shah, President, The Synthetic & Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council (SRTEPC) said that over the years, Surat has performed well in fabric and now the target should be on garmenting. Kidswear and womenwear are the segments with full of opportunities, so companies can start with these segments.

In coming years, textile industry will get more value by garment manufacturing and export of the garment.

Various speakers highlighted that there are around 25,000 garment machines in the various factories of Surat and there is potential for multifold growth in the same.

During the event, SGCCI officials shared the efforts to promote Surat’s textile trade at the international level.
