NEW DELHI: In a move which will expand the supply chain integration of domestic companies engaged in the aviation and aerospace industry, Tata Advanced Systems Ltd, has won a contract from Airbus to manufacture cargo and bulk cargo doors of the A320neo passenger aircraft and its variants.

Tata Advanced Systems will produce these doors at a new facility in Hyderabad using cutting-edge robotics and automation technology and each shipset will include two cargo doors and one bulk cargo door, Airbus said in a statement.

“We have an ongoing relationship with Airbus based on trust and operational excellence, and this new contract win will further bolster our partnership in aerospace manufacturing in India.” said Sukaran Singh, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Tata Advanced Systems.

Airbus’ clients in India for the A320 family of aircraft include IndiGo, Go First and the Air India Group. In February, Air India placed a historic order for 470 aircraft, of which 210 aircraft will be from A320neo family. Both Air India and Tata Advanced Systems are owned by Tata Sons.

Airbus is also slated to deliver about 300 A320neo family aircraft to India’s largest carrier IndiGo, an order which was placed in October of 2019.

Airbus presently procures components and services worth $735 million per annum from more than 100 Indian suppliers, supporting nearly 10,000 jobs in India. By 2025, this number should rise to about 15,000, the statement said.

Airbus and Tata Advanced Systems will also start manufacturing C-295 military aircraft in Gujarat, land for which has already been allocated by the government.

Apart from engagement with Airbus, Tata Advanced Systems also has partnership with Airbus’ competitor Boeing wherein it manufactures floor beams for the Boeing 787, tail fin for Boeing 737 MAX, as well as fuselages for the Apache strike helicopters.
