Thousands remain without power a day after storms – WSOC TV

CHARLOTTE — Thousands of people remained without power Friday morning after a series of storms caused outages across the Carolinas.

Outage maps from Duke Energy showed 4,000 people in the Charlotte area without power, including 3,000 in the city. Another 3,000 were listed without power in South Carolina.

Late Thursday afternoon, Duke Energy reported more than 36,000 power outages in the Charlotte area. That number rose to more than 40,000 into the evening. By midnight, roughly 13,000 were impacted by the outages, according to the utility company’s website.

At 5 p.m., there were more than 17,000 without power in Mecklenburg County. Another 17,000 customers in Cabarrus County lost power as storms moved through the area. Other counties have also experienced outages.

Restoration times varied based on the location and the cause of the outage.
