Primo glassblower Kelsey Finnie has exhibit, Finding Balance, all month at Dare Arts Council building in Manteo. Intricate techniques create different forms, textures, colors. Ohio native currently lives in Portsmouth, Va., and works out of Chrysler Museum in Norfolk as instructor and administrative monitor. She will be at Art Council Oct. 7 from 6-8 p.m. for exhibit opening to discuss her work, in conjunction with First Friday festivities in downtown Manteo. Free to public. Annual jazz festival is back following a pandemic hiatus. Two days of music at Duck Town Park and amphitheater and fest-themed events around town. Lineup has an international flavor, with John Jorgenson Quintet, Banda Magda, La Fiesta Latin Jazz Quintet, Bassell and the Supernaturals, as well as U.S. Air Force Rhythm in Blue Ensemble. Music includes Main Event Band out of Greenville, Partly Crowdy, No More Room Band and Buffalo City Moonshiners. More than 90 sessions stretching from Corolla to Hatteras and Ocracoke, as well as mainland Dare County at Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge. Kayaking, paddling, hiking, photography programs. An afternoon of beer and flying kegs. What’s not to like? Family-friendly celebration of craft beer and flight at Soundside Event Site in Nags Head. Teams compete to see who can fly an empty, 1/6 keg barrel the farthest from a launch platform. Live music, food and, of course, beer. Kids zone features many activities. Admission free, but beer and food cost. Registration cost for flying keg competition $150. Net proceeds will be donated to Rogallo Foundation, named for Francis Rogallo, a pioneer of modern aviation. Four days of bluegrass music and fans in downtown Manteo, with main days Friday and Saturday at Roanoke Island Festival Park. Acts include We Banjo 3, Breaking Grass, Junior Sisk, Steep Canyon Rangers, Rhonda Vincent and the Rage and festival host band Sideline. Weekend kicks off with free Wednesday evening show by Sideline at Lost Colony Tavern. Thursday evening free show at Bluegrass Island Trading Company. Annual Ocracoke family-friendly festival celebrates colonial life and Blackbeard’s legacy. Berkley Manor grounds in downtown Ocracoke will host re-creation of colonial-era encampment with living history crews as colonists, pirates. Friday movie “Blackbeard’s Ghost” at Berkley Barn at 7 p.m., followed by Q&A with N.C. historian Kevin Duffus. Saturday arts and crafts and activities, and 2 p.m. re-enactment in Silver Lake Harbor of Battle of Ocracoke and Blackbeard’s last hours, with historically accurate ships. Duffus also will give talks about Blackbeard.

Rocky Horror Show | Oct. 28-31

Theatre of Dare takes on Agatha Christie’s venerable play about murder and tension among a group of stranded houseguests in which one of them is the killer, as well as the creepy, campy, amusing, musical tale of a couple who stumble upon Dr. Frank-N-Furter’s mansion and meet his weird, ghoulish entourage. Get your “Time Warp” on. Trivia: in the original 1975 movie version of Rocky Horror Picture Show, Susan Sarandon plays Janet, the heroine. Mousetrap tickets $15 adult, $10 youth.
