May 17 (Renewables Now) – Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corp confirmed last week that Takao Konishi will be the company’s new president and CEO.

Konishi will succeed Mamoru Hatazawa effective on June 1, 2021.

Part of Toshiba Corp (TYO:6502) since 1985, Konishi is currently acting as Toshiba Energy Systems’ general manager and senior vice president of the power systems division. He has been serving as director and general manager for different segments of Toshiba Energy Systems since it split off from Toshiba Corp in October 2017.

The energy business of Toshiba supplies integrated energy solutions, with expertise in various power generating and transmitting systems and energy management technology. It has a dedicated renewable energy segment that covers virtual power plants (VPPs), hydropower, geothermal and wind power.

Earlier last week, Toshiba Energy Systems announced it is teaming up with GE Renewable Energy in order to bring the latter’s Haliade-X offshore wind turbine to the Japanese market. The two companies intend to localise part of the turbine manufacturing process and facilitate its commercialisation in Japan.
