MUMBAI: Following deferring of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Mumbai for the inauguration of the Mumbai Coastal Road project (phase 1), there remains uncertainty over the new inauguration date. While sources said that the inauguration could now take place on Feb 28, the BMC officials declined to comment.

The municipal commissioner, IS Chahal, had earlier this month while tabling the BMC budget 2024-25 announced that PM Modi would be inaugurating the first phase of Mumbai Coastal Road project on Feb 19. The first phase involves only south-bound travel for motorists coming from Worli up to Marine Drive.

However, even as inauguration of the first phase is delayed, work on the north-bound side of the road continues in full swing. The entire coast road from Marine Drive to Worli is expected to be operational by May 2024 said officials except for the two car parkings and landscaping works on the open spaces.

Overall, 84% of the main project, divided into three packages, stands completed.
