CHENNAI: The US Coast Guard’s Midgett, a Hawaii-based National Security Cutter, reached Chennai on Friday for a four-day visit as part of a goodwill gesture reiterating 75 years of “trusted partnership” between the US and India.
The ship, equipped with a UAS ScanEagle drone, MH-65 helicopter and other state-of-the-art equipment, will participate in the joint exercise to be conducted off Chennai on Monday for sharing of expertise and best practices.
Captain Willie Carmichael, commander of the ship, said: “As we spend the next four days with our Indian Coast Guard partners, we will work to advance our capabilities and interoperability through meaningful interactions with our like-minded partners who share similar values and a commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific. ”
