Wabtec bags Rs 1,300 crore order from Siemens Limited, Infra News, ET Infra

MUMBAI: Rail technology company Wabtec Corporation today said Siemens India Private Limited’s mobility business has placed brake system order for Rs 1,300 crore for 9000HP locomotive project for Indian Railways.

For the new line of 1,200 electric locomotives, the order will deliver enhanced operational performance, efficiency, and safety with the newest technology, according to an official release.

“Siemens is firmly committed to transform rail and mobilize India with cutting-edge technologies and solutions. We are excited about our partnership with Wabtec, who also shares a similar vision of creating a green and world-class railway network,” said Gunjan Vakharia, Head of Mobility Business, Siemens Limited.

The locomotives will have improved dependability, fewer maintenance intervals, and essential safety features thanks to the high-performance braking system. The announcement further stated that Wabtec is a highly valued brake supplier across platforms for mainline and urban rail mobility because it already provides brake systems for other Indian Railway and metro projects.

“Wabtec is committed to the delivery of high performance and safety critical products for the Indian market,” said Sujatha Narayan, Senior Vice President and India Region Leader, Wabtec Corporation. “The ILS series of braking system is a product ‘Made in India’, which is designed and developed by the India-based engineering team.”

Major subsystems including as brake systems, pantographs, couplers, air conditioning systems, and passenger access doors can be constructed by Wabtec’s Transit business in India. Technical and service assistance can be obtained from the company’s extensive engineering presence in Hosur and Bangalore.
