Sensory sensitivity is experienced by people when they are reactive to certain external sensory input. This creates disturbance and the sense of not being comfortable in many. Addressing this, Therapist Sarah Crosby wrote, “Having a high level of sensory sensitivity is particularly common if you have ADHD, are autistic, or if you have SPD (sensory processing disorder). While sensory processing sensitivity can be linked with hypervigilance as a result of trauma, it’s important to know this isn’t always the case- we can just be sensitive to sensory input.” Sarah further noted down a few examples of how sensory sensitivity feels like.(Unsplash)
