Van Cleef & Arpels is a French luxury jewellery company that was founded in 1896 by the Dutch diamond-cutter Alfred Van Cleef and his father-in-law Salomon Arpels.

The brand is known for its pieces designed after exotic birds, fairies and flowers – but the Alhambra collection is arguably the most recognisable of the Van Cleef & Arpels pieces.

The design features a four-leaf clover and is extremely similar to a Moorish quatrefoil, which is a pattern that looks like four circles overlapping each other.

The very first Alhambra design was a necklace that featured 20 of its clover-shaped gems. During the late 1960s and the early 1970s, this design was picked up by several celebrities and was soon seen on the likes of American actress Grace Kelly.

Nowadays Van Cleef & Arpels is synonymous with luxury and influencers such as Molly Mae Hague are fans of the brand and its pieces.

Currently #vancleef has more than 84.1 million views on TikTok with the brand’s Alhambra necklace being one of the most lusted-over styles.

Sadly, the luxury jewellery comes at a high cost and will be out of bounds for many. The vintage Alhambra necklace, for example, will set you back more than £2,500.

Thankfully, the world of dupes is here to save the day if you want to replicate the style on a budget.

A Van Cleef necklace dupe is easy to find and prices won’t break the bank.

Here are some of the best you can buy now.
