Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD will launch itsd premium electric vehicle, Seal, in India tomorrow (March 5). BYD currently offers e6 MPV and the Atto 3 crossover SUV in India as well.

The Seal, which competes globally with the likes of Tesla Model 3, boasts a stylish and aerodynamic design, complete with a slanting rooftop. It offers two battery pack options: 61.4 kWh and 82.5 kWh. The smaller pack can be used with both single- and dual-motor setups, while the larger pack is exclusively for all-wheel-drive. The top variant, equipped with the larger battery, promises an impressive range of up to 700 km and a powerful 530 hp dual-motor setup, allowing for a 3.8-second 0-100 kmph sprint. The powertrain options available in India are yet to be confirmed.

Being a premium EV, the BYD Seal is expected to provide a luxurious and technologically advanced cabin. One its highlights is the rotating 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, accompanied by a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display. Other features include powered and climate-controlled front seats, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera, leather upholstery, and 19-inch alloy wheels. In terms of safety, the Seal is likely to come equipped with dual front airbags and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), among other features. It’s worth noting that the model has already received a 5-star safety rating in Euro NCAP tests.

While BYD has not revealed anything about its price in India yet, it is expected to fall within the Rs 60-65 lakh ex-showroom price range. This would position it as a competitor to other electric vehicles like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, BMW i4, and Kia EV6.
