electric vehicles: October records 185 per cent surge in retail sales of electric vehicles in India

Retail electric vehicle sales in India went up nearly 185 per cent year-on-year in October, latest data showed.

According to new numbers made available by FADA said on Wednesday, overall retail sales of EVs, including passenger vehicles, stood at 1,11,971 units in October. In October 2021, EVs had logged sales of 39,329 units.

FADA, or Federation of Automobile Dealers Association of India, is an automobile dealers’ body.

The rise in total sales of passenger EV sales during the month was 178 per cent — 3,745 units as against 1,346 sold in the comparable month a year earlier.

Electric commercial vehicle sales were up 125.64 per cent to 274 units in October.

As for two-wheeler electric vehicles, October 2022 sales numbers stood at 73,169 units. In the same month a year ago, sales were at 19,826.

This represents a year-on-year growth of 269.06 per cent.

Sales of three-wheeler EVs surged 92.87 per cent to 34,793 units during the month under consideration, compared to 18,040 units in October 2021.
