Indian Railways’ revenue up two-fold from ticket cancellation charges

NAVI MUMBAI: The Indian Railways (IR) has nearly doubled its revenue from ticket cancellation charges between May 2014 and March 2022. The IR had collected Rs 927 crore in 2014-15, which shot up to Rs 1,569 crore till March 2022, revealed an RTI information provided to an activist by the IR.

Highest collection of Rs 265 crore was reported in 2018-19 financial year. Under the Revised Refund Rules effective November 12, 2015, cancellation charges were doubled. Accordingly, 1st AC cancellation charges were doubled to Rs 240 from Rs 120, 2nd AC to Rs 200 from Rs 100, 3rd AC to Rs 180 from Rs 90.
