He interacted with students for about 10 minutes. “The Prime Minister asked students what they’re studying and asked about their career dreams. When they said they want to work for the country and make India a strong economy, he thanked them and wished them the best,” a senior official of the higher education department at the event told TOI.
Modi unveiled the bronze statue of Dr BR Ambedkar on the campus. Later, higher education minister CN Ashwath Narayan and BASE University vice-chancellor Prof NR Bhanumurthy and others presented him a replica of the statue. When students wanted to take a photograph with him at the administrative building, he reportedly suggested they do it in front of the faculty block.
Later, he inaugurated 150 Industrial Training Institutes that were upgraded as technology hubs training youngsters in modern technology, including electric vehicles, industrial robotics and the Internet of Things.
Earlier, he was received by governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, chief minister Basavaraj Bommai, former CM BS Yediyurappa and others at the IAF Yelahanka airbase. It will offer an integrated MD-PhD programme for students who will pursue careers in clinical research and will be trained in the hospital and science and engineering laboratories.
Modi also inaugurated the Centre for Brain Research, an autonomous, non-profit research organisation at IISc which is a gift from Infosys co-founder Kris Gopalakrishnan and his wife Sudha.
The initiative will facilitate research on the ageing brain and age-associated brain disorders.
