Norway awards 47 oil and gas exploration permits in latest licensing round

(Reuters) — On Jan. 10., Norway’s energy minister announced that the country awarded 47 offshore oil and gas exploration permits to various companies, including Equinor, Eni, and Aker BP.

Equinor, Norway’s state-controlled energy company, received stakes in 26 of the licenses, the most out of all recipients. Other notable wins include Aker BP with stakes in 17 licenses and Vaar Energy, a subsidiary of Eni, with stakes in 12 licenses.

Of the 47 drilling permits, 29 are in the North Sea, 16 are in the Norwegian Sea, and two are in the Arctic Barents Sea. This licensing round is expected to bolster and maintain activity in the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
