TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Thousands of seagoing passengers embarked on several regions and passengers who had just disembarked from the ship thronged the port of Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, Monday evening, December 26, 2022.

Communication Manager of PT Pelni, Ditto Pappilanda, said that based on the data, 1,236 passengers boarding KM Kelud arrived at the port of Tanjung Priok, Monday at 20:30 WIB (Western Indonesia Time). “While passengers who were about to enter the ship were 1,927 people,” said Ditto when confirmed by reporters in Jakarta.

KM Kelud arrived at Tanjung Priok Port from Batam, Riau Archipelago, at 20:30 WIB, and was about to depart again to Port Kijang in the Riau Archipelago with an estimated departure time of 23:59 WIB. The estimate of its arrival to Port Kijang is at 06:00 WIB, considering the ship’s voyage takes up to five hours.

The passengers waited in front of the terminal entrance to the Tanjung Priok port. Many were sitting by in various places with some bringing a mat for themselves to rest and waiting for the departure time.

Passengers who waited their departure time until the evening made several sellers occupying the waiting room still open their stalls. One of the sellers named Rully (56), owner of Warung Sukabumi Abah Rully, was busy serving customers until 21:55 WIB.

During the 2022 Christmas holidays and approaching the 2023 New year, many sellers operating on the port have made efforts to provide excellent service to visitors, both passengers and escorts.

Although sales during the Christmas holiday did not increase significantly, Rully remains grateful to be able to earn between Rp 300,000 to Rp1,000,000 every day by selling in the waiting room of Tanjung Priok Port. “Alhamdulillah (Praise be to God), I’m able to earn Rp300,000 when the waiting room is quiet. But when it starts to get crowded, I could earn one (million),” said Rully.

Food Stalls Open Until Evening

Rully hopes that on Tuesday (27/12), he will be able to attract more customers to his food stall since there are two passenger ships docked at the port. If the ships arrive at night, usually the passengers stay overnight. The condition is hoped would increase the number of customers visiting his stall.

Apart from Rully, nine other stalls still open late at night at the port of Tanjung Priok. “Six of them are food stalls,” said Rully.

Meanwhile, the owner of Warung Maros Lenteng (50) stated that the number of customers during the Christmas holidays at Tanjung Priok port was fairly standard compared to the holiday of 2022 Eid al-Fitr. “There is an increase but not significant, unlike the 2022 Eid where the number of customers is booming,” said Lenteng who had been selling at the port Waiting Room Canteen for five years.

However, Lenteng, who prefers to be called Mrs Ros, stated that the current conditions were brighter than during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. “It was gloomy during the early pandemic, everything completely stopped. Alhamdulillah (Thank god), currently, the pandemic has died down,” she said.
