Western Railway generated ticket-checking revenue of Rs 115.71 crore, ET Infra


AHMEDABAD: In order to ensure hassle-free, comfortable travel & better services to all bonafide passengers over Western Railway, intensive ticket-checking drives are being carried out continuously over Mumbai suburban local services, Mail or Express as well as passenger trains & holiday special trains. The aim is to curb the menace of ticketless or irregular passengers.

The ticket-checking staff worked with full zeal and the highly motivated ticket-checking team under the supervision of senior commercial officers of Western Railway organized several ticket-checking drives during the months from April to November 2023, thereby recovering an amount to the tune of Rs 115.71 crore, which also includes Rs 30.06 crore from Mumbai suburban section.

Western Railway officials reported that in November 2023, the highest-ever monthly ticket-checking revenue of Rs 21.20 crores was recorded. In the financial year 2023-24, this revenue was recovered through the detection of 2.94 lakh ticketless or irregular passengers, including unbooked luggage cases

Also, in the month of November, WR realized fines amounting to Rs 5.68 crore through detection of over 94 thousand cases over Mumbai suburban section. To prevent unauthorized entry in AC local trains, frequent surprise ticket-checking drives are carried out. As a result of these drives more than 44,000 unauthorized passengers have been penalized during the period April to November 2023 and Rs 146.43 lakhs collected in fines, which is about 68% higher than the same period of last year.
