Mangaluru: Cement-laden truck veers off road after tyre burst, driver rescued

Mangaluru, Jan 17: The front tyre of a truck carrying white cement got burst and the truck fell into a roadside trench by the side of the highway on the evening of Monday at Jeppinamogaru on NH 66.

The truck driver who was badly stuck inside the truck was rescued in a marathon one and half hour operation that involved locals and fire service personnel.

Nagaraj, truck driver of Tamil Nadu origin, was rescued. The truck was carrying white cement from Mangaluru to Kerala. As it reached Yenepoya school at Jeppinamogaru, the front tyre got burst and the vehicle slid into the road side gorge. Cleaner of the truck jumped out of the vehicle before it fell and escaped. However, driver Nagaraj was stuck inside the truck and the cement bags fell on him.

Locals rushed to the rescue and removed the cement bags one by one and prevented the driver from getting suffocated. Later, fire service personnel arrived on the scene and brought the driver out after using gas cutter and other equipment.

Drive Nagaraj escaped miraculously with minor injuries. Both the driver and cleaner are getting medical treatment. The timely action of locals and fire service personnel is appreciated widely by general public.
